We will come back to other languages later. I am planning to feature some wonderful director combinations that Ilaiyaraaja had over the years.

I like to start with my most favourite director. Someone who should have got more international recognition than any other director in India – Mahendran. Ilaiyaraaja and Mahendran worked together except for his last two movies. Sasanam (music by Bala Barathi), the last one with Arvind Swamy never released. Mahendran has always given Raaja challenging situations and free hand to experiment.

Although I will be posting some rare songs, I am going to start with the most famous song that they produced.

Song – 40/365

Paruvame Pudhiya Paadal

Movie: Nenjathai Killadhe (1981)

Director: Mahendran

Actors: Suhasini, Prathap Pothen and Mohan

Singer: SPB & S.Janaki

Lyricist: Panju Arunachalam

I am posting the video because the movie won a national award for best cinematographer – Ashok Kumar apart from two other National Awards.

1. Recently at the Jaya TV Show, Ilaiyaraaja revealed that the foot tapping was indeed the thigh tapping of two percussionists. Watch the below video to know how they did it.
