April 1- Why its not a Fool's Day?

// April 1st, 2009 // 2 Comments » // Events

April 1- the day everybody calls April Fools day. The day you play prank on people. The day you have fun.

The origin of the day is not so concrete. Some say the name originated to make fun of people in Roman Empire, when they celebrate Spring Day prematurely in April rather than May 1. Some say it originated in France to bully those oldies who celebrated the New Year on April 1 even after King Charles changed it to January 1.

Anyways it has become a tradition that whatever you do that day becomes a action of a fool. But some people are born to break the rules.

On April 1, 1891, the Wrigley company was started.

On April 1, 1976 Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started the Apple Computers. And they showed why world will not be the same after Apple.

On April 1,2004 Google introduced Gmail to the world and it changed the way people looked at emails.

April 1 is the birthday of Otto Van Bismarck,Edgar Wallace, Abraham Maslow, Stephen Fleming etc.,

Somehow I get a feeling that April 1 is not the day of fools but the day on which success written all over

P.S: Looking for some more April 1 startups and successes… Give your list as comments will update this post.

The Chennai Half-Marathon

// August 17th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Events

All these years, there was something missing for the Chennai crowd and other metros had. Its the Chennai Half Marathon. Mumbai having its own, and almost a record number of participants this year. The Delhi was wonderful.

This half-marathon and the marathon culture is pretty new for Chennai. I think we had one in February, if i am not wrong. This Chennai Half-Marathon is actually a ‘Run for a cause’. The money collected from the run will be used for the education of under previleged children. A cause which i share by ideology. The Half-Marathon is organised by Marg Constructions and host of companies supporting it.

There are host of celebrities like Arya, Kanimozhi, Karthi Chidambaram etc., who are participating in the event. For more details and registration, http://www.margchennaimarathon.com/

And ofcourse, you have the one of the biggest prize money Rs.10 Lakhs.

Blogcamp in Venice…

// August 17th, 2008 // 3 Comments » // Events

I dunno whether i will have the chance to go to the Venice of the West. And i will not regret it because, there is one place which is equally beautiful to that original venice. Alappuzha from the God’s own country. Ok, my travelogue post of the Allepey trip will come later, this post is dedicated to the blog camp.

This is my first blog camp and i missed Chennai blog camp due to hectic schedules. I dunno how these camps work out but it was really wonderful to see some passionate bloggers around.

blog camp kerala

( This photo is from Kenney’s blog. Its only part of the whole group…)

What i liked in the Blog Camp?

1.The Hospitality of the organizers. Guys, kudos to you and thanks to you, we felt at home.
2.The venue, oh my god it tops my list. A meeting on the house boat moving around the back waters of Kerala. Thats the place to be on earth for sure.
3.The discussions from Mani Karthik, Pradip and Kenney. I have decided to make my blog SEO friendly, make my poems in to audio and planning for a discussion with my school for the Campus Blog ( Kenney, will it be the first ever school campus blog?)
4.Sajiv, what a cartoonist. He was a master crafts man and thanks for the cartoon. He drew me like a politician. (Do you practice astrology Sajiv, all the famous people born on my birthday are politicians!!!)
5.Food. Kappa, with Fish Fry, Fish curry, Duck masala and Chicken Fry. Heavenly Delicous.
6.I made a good lot of blogger friends. Kenney, Aravind, Karthik ( we had along walk back and a good chat), Munif, Anurag and lot others. The list is endless.
7.The photographers. everybody was snapping left, right and centre. I missed my camera. Thanks Sarath for those wonderful snaps. I am giving a link to your Flickr page.

What i didn’t like in the camp?

1.Some had the conversations in Malayalam. We couldn’t enjoy the jokes,anecdotes and even one full session. Sorry Farmer Uncle, i had to go out and watch the waters during your presentation because i could not comprehend with what you are saying. The universal language could have been used.
2.Why you guys made it only for one day?

BlogCamp Kerala

// July 14th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // Events

Hmmm A winter day, in the back waters of Kerala, on an house boat. Sounds Heavenly…Err.. but a small twist to it I am not going with my girl friend for a fun trip but i am going to attend the BlogCamp in Kerala.

Anyways I hope this going to be as exciting as that ( Please guys don’t let me down)… This is going to be my first BlogCamp, as i missed the Chennai one last year to hectic schedules in office. But i don’t want to miss this one for anything.

I am not a tech blogger, nor a tech junkie and not even nearer to some of the guys who are attending the camp. But what i expect is that i can learn something which i can try experiementing with my blogs and have fun in God’s Own Country.

 The topics for the unconference looks exciting and i hope it will increase as the countdown started for the camp.Anybody reading the post want to join the BlogCamp, jump to this site www.blogcampkerala.com and register yourself. The seats are limited to 80 and its fast filling (what you expect then).

Anybody coming can join me too as i am planning to go on the 15th, roam around Alappuzha and start from there on August 16th evening.

My Amaze Moments

// February 22nd, 2007 // No Comments » // Events

Amaze is not just a management cultural fest for me. It’s a culture by itself. Every year we strive to achieve something different, something big and something innovative. We have always done it. When we joined IIPM in 2003, we just thought its going to be two years of boring classes and exams without realizing what is in store for us.

First AMAZE – AMAZE ‘04

The Amaze in which I was less involved, I was more involved in the registration and coordinating with colleges. Whereas the core team comprising of Satish, Naveen , Prasad, Ajay, Vijay Kothari, Madan, Paddu and Shivram did the first rock show for IIPM. A small time band called Molotov Cocktail did the show for us. Although it was greek and latin for me, it was a good start for IIPM and Amaze.

More than 35 colleges participated in the event. The specialty of Amaze is that we don’t stop with management events; we go one step ahead and conduct cultural events like Antakshari, Choreo Etc. It gives a platform for B-School students who are also talented in cultural events.
Institute of Technology and Management (ITM, Chennai), took the overall championship.

Amaze has evolved so much in these years and we are going to host the biggest show of Chennai this year

So here is a small trailer for you…

An interesting story happened in the Second Amaze….

To be continued….
