Hi friends

Today we have a longer visual connect question made by our very own Karthik Narayan.

Q8: Connect these 6 images (shown below) to a famous event/thing in history. Also link these 6 images to each other and the event.

Answer: The first Atom Bomb

  • Robert Oppenheimer was the man behind the Trinity test or the Manhattan Project
  • Trinity, the character from Matrix (did not want to use the proverbial Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva or the trinity of music)
  • Oppenheimer quoted heavily from the Bhagavad Gita (which also had the Brahmastra, known as the world’s first atom bomb)
  • The Bhagavad Gita was recited by Krishna to Arjuna when he unveiled the Vishwaroopa
  • Sanjaya narrated it all to Dridarashtra, the blind King
  • Hanuman was on the flag of Arjuna during the whole war

Everyone came very close to the whole answer, but the eventual winner has to be Sowmya K. Ghosh (via Facebook), who connected all the pictures and managed to give the right answer – Congrats !!! Ingit, Jamuna and Ajaal/Gujaal also chipped in with the right answer, and tried well to connect as many pics as they could. Jango and Swetha didi (both via Facebook) did well to try this real toughie 🙂 Thank you all for trying this question 🙂

  1. Don't know of the photos in their entirety, but I believe this has something to do with the Manhattan Project. Trinity was the name of the Nuclear Test that they conducted. The gentleman in the picture, J. Robert Oppenheimer was the head of the Manhattan Project, also called as "The Father of the Atomic Bomb". At the time of the test, he quoted a verse from the Bhagvad Gita. The others, I have no clue of.

  2. I know it's not a complete answer, but will tell what I'm aware of. The event here is the Hiroshima Nagasaki bombings. The gentleman in the 2nd picture is Robert Oppenheimer, director of the "Manhattan project" that conducted the bombings, which was also the first atomic bomb developed. The verse from the Gita (pictures 5 & 6) is the one that was quoted by Mr Oppenheimer as the inspiration/justification for his actions. It is the one in which Vishnu (in his Vishwaroopam as in picture 3) tells Arjuna to go ahead and do his duty as a Kshatriya in the battle, and that the Kauravas shall be defeated irrespective of his participation. The wisdom of Oppenheimer's interpretation of the verses is still a matter of debate. I'm not sure about the relevance of pictures 1 and 4, which is why I said my answer may not be complete…
